Presidential Facts

I remember celebrating Presidents Day as a little girl – we did a lot of projects about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington.

What I can remember learning on (or around) Presidents Day in grade school:

1. George Washington was our first president.

2. George Washington was a revolutionary war hero.

3. George Washington was said to be a very honest man.

4. George Washington lived in a big white house in Virginia.

5. George Washingon was born on February 22nd.

6. Abraham Lincoln was born in a small log cabin on February 12th.

7. Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation and promoted the 13th amendment to the US abolishing slavery.

8. Abraham Lincoln preserved the Union of States via the civil war.

9. Abraham Lincoln was the author of the famous Gettysburg Address – Four score and seven years ago…government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish…

10. Abraham Lincoln was assassinated – shot by John Wilkes booth.
